Arevon, a leading renewable energy developer in the United States, has established a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality company-wide by 2040. To help track progress toward this goal, Arevon asked EAP students Francie Fink, Cara Scalpone, Kyla Smith, and Zhixing Xu to conduct a comprehensive analysis of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory reporting and competitor best practices. The final report offers detailed recommendations for establishing a sustainable and accurate annual GHG inventory. Key recommendations include adopting the operational control approach for emissions reporting, implementing a centralized data management strategy, and utilizing protocols from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Global Reporting Initiative. The report also highlights the importance of addressing Scope 1 (direct) and 2 (purchased electricity) emissions, with specific methodologies for calculating emissions from stationary combustion, mobile sources, refrigerants, and fire suppressants. The report also recommends reporting Scope 3 (indirect) and Scope 4 (avoided) emissions in the areas most relevant to company operations.
